Here are some tips for cleaning blood stains:
- For fresh blood stains, soak the stain in cool water immediately. Blot, don't rub, at the stain with a clean cloth or paper towel to lift it up.
- For set-in or dried blood stains, make a solution of 1 teaspoon dish soap, 1 cup warm water, and 1 tablespoon hydrogen peroxide. Blot the solution onto the stain and let it sit for 5 minutes before rinsing with cold water and blotting dry.
- You can also try using laundry pre-treatment spray on dried blood stains before washing. Spray it on and let it sit before washing according to the garment's care tag instructions.
- For tough stains that persist, make a thick paste of enzyme-based pre-wash stain remover or bleach-alternative stain remover. Rub it onto the stain and let it sit for at least 30 minutes before washing.
- As a last resort, use a bleach-safe brush to gently scrub at dried blood stains with a diluted chlorine bleach solution. Rinse thoroughly and wash afterwards.
