Quarriers, also known as Quarrister, are medium-sized birds that are part of the pigeon family. Here are some tips for breeding Quarriers:
- Houses your breeding pairs in a spacious, well-ventilated loft or aviary.
- Provide a varied diet for your birds consisting of seeds, grains, greens, and calcium supplements.
- Introduce your breeding pair when they are sexually mature between 6-12 months old.
- Nesting boxes should be around 12-15 inches wide and 10-12 inches deep with nesting materials like hay or wood shavings.
- The hen will lay 1-2 eggs per day until she has a clutch of 2-4 eggs. Incubation period is around 17-19 days.
- Babies fledge the nest in 4-5 weeks but continue to be fed by parents for another 2-3 weeks.
- Handle the babies gently once they leave the nest to get them used to human contact.
With the right housing, diet, and care, Quarriers can be successfully bred to produce healthy, beautiful batches of babies each season.
