How To Breed Riff?

Riff raff are very social fish that do best in groups of 5 or more. To breed riff raff, make sure you have a mature group of at least 5 fish, with a roughly equal number of male and female fish. They become sexually mature at around 6 months of age. Provide plenty of hiding places like smooth river rocks for the female to lay her eggs.

Riff raff will spawn when conditions are right, which includes warm water between 75-82°F, slightly acidic pH between 6.5-7.5, and dimmed lighting. The female will deposit her eggs inside the hiding places provided. She may lay several hundred eggs at a time. Leave the eggs undisturbed for 8-10 days for them to hatch.

Newly hatched fry are tiny and require small live foods like infusoria or freshly hatched brine shrimp. You can also grind up fish food into a powder for them. As they grow, transition them to crushed flake food or micro pellets. Within a few weeks they will be large enough to be moved to their own grow out tank. In about 6 months, they will reach sexual maturity and the cycle can repeat.
