To breed shellbeat, you will need two shellbeat in a large aquarium or pond. Shellbeat reach sexual maturity at around 6 months old. When the shellbeat are ready to breed, raise the water temperature to 75-80°F. Breeding will occur at night, when the shellbeat spawn eggs under leaves or in plant matter. The eggs will hatch within 2-3 days. Care for the fry like any small freshwater fish. Feed them infusoria or crushed flakes initially. Shellbeat make great community fish and are easy to breed, so enjoy this colorful addition to your aquatic habitat!
