How To Draw A Sunset?

Here are the basic steps to draw a sunset:

  1. Start with the horizon line at the bottom of the page. This can be a straight line or curved depending on your perspective.
  2. Add an orange or yellow circle for the sun just peeking below the horizon. You can shade it lighter at the top to show its glow.
  3. Above the sun, layer colors to show the sunset sky. Start with orange closer to the sun fading to yellow, then add pink and a light purple or blue further up.
  4. Add wispy clouds in lighter colors like white, light gray or pink near the sun. Softer puffy clouds in the upper sky will make it look more realistic.
  5. Optionally add hints of buildings, trees or hills in dark silhouettes along the horizon to set the scene. Keep them simple with few details.
  6. Blend and layer the colors smoothly with your finger or a tissue. You can also use a brush to add texture to the clouds.
  7. Sign and date your finished sunset painting! Admire your work as the "sun" sets on your artwork.
