Here are the basic steps to draw an afro:
- Sketch the overall circular shape of the afro using light circular strokes.
- Within the circular shape, add many small curled lines radiating outward to represent individual strands of hair.
- The strands should be of varying thickness and length to create a natural, textured look.
- Add more definition to the strands near the center and make them lighter and less dense towards the edges of the afro for dimension.
- You can also add some spirals or loops within the strands to represent hair twisting and curling in different directions.
- Blend or shade the pencil lines very lightly if desired to give the hair more depth and fullness.
Experiment with different line weights, hair textures and densities until you achieve a look that resembles an authentic afro hair style. Be patient, it may take some practice to get the hang of drawing textured hair realistically.
