Hickeys can be embarrassing, but there are a few things you can try to help them fade faster:
- Apply a cold compress. Place an ice pack or cold spoon on the hickey for 10-15 minutes several times a day.
- Try heat. Soak a washcloth in hot water and apply gentle heat to the area for 15 minutes. This can help increase blood flow and speed healing.
- Massage the area. Gently massage the hickey with your fingertips to help break up the blood under the skin.
- Use concealers. Apply a thick concealer, foundation, or skin-toned cream to the area to hide the bruise until it fully heals.
- Take an anti-inflammatory. Ibuprofen or naproxen can help reduce swelling and bruising.
- Give it time. Most hickeys will fade completely within 5-10 days with proper care and treatment.
See a doctor if the hickey is very large, dark, or painful after a week. They may be able to help speed healing with other medical therapies.
