Here are some ways to get rid of hiccups:
- Drink a full glass of water slowly and steadily.
- Hold your breath for as long as you can, then slowly exhale through your mouth.
- Eat a spoonful of peanut butter or sugar.
- Gargle with warm water or vinegar.
- Press on your diaphragm with your fingers or gently massage the area.
- Place a paper bag over your mouth and nose and breathe into it slowly for a minute.
- Bend over a table with your head lower than your chest while someone strokes your back.
If hiccups persist for more than 48 hours, see a doctor as it could be a sign of an underlying medical condition.
