To jump start a car with a dead battery using another car as a power source:
- Park the working car next to the car with the dead battery.
- Make sure both cars are in park and have their parking brakes engaged.
- Turn off both cars.
- Open the hoods of both cars.
- Connect one clamps of the jumper cables to the positive (+) terminal of the dead battery.
- Connect the other end of that cable to the positive (+) terminal of the good battery.
- Connect one clamp of the second cable to the negative (-) terminal of the good battery.
- Connect the last clamp to a solid metal part of the engine away from the battery, such as the engine block or a bracket.
- Start the car with the good battery and let it run for a few minutes.
- Try to start the car with the dead battery. If it doesn't start, let the good car run for a few more minutes and try again.
- Once the dead car is running, disconnect the cables in reverse order.
Never connect the negative cable to the negative terminal of the dead battery, as this could cause a spark.
