Here are a few ways to record footage from your Arlo cameras without a subscription:
- Use the free 7-day trial that comes with a new Arlo system. This will allow you to record footage for a week without paying for a plan.
- Set your cameras to only record motion-triggered clips and download them regularly. The clips will be short (usually 30 seconds) but free of charge. Make sure to delete the clips regularly so your base station doesn't fill up.
- Invest in a separate NVR (network video recorder) device that can connect to your Arlo cameras via RTSP and record 24/7. Some popular options are Blue Iris, Shinobi, and Zoneminder. This allows continuous recording without a subscription fee.
- Manually save clips from the Arlo app when needed. You can pull up live feeds and manually save clips as needed for free, but you won't get continuous recording this way.
- Consider switching to a different, subscription-free smart camera brand that supports continuous local recording like Amcrest, Reolink, or Swann. While you'll need to replace your Arlo cameras, it avoids subscription fees long-term.
