Zelkov are peaceful forest dwelling creatures. To recruit them, you must first gain their trust.
Visit the zelkov grove during daylight hours when they are most active. Bring an offering of berries, nuts or mushrooms and leave it at the edge of the grove as a gift. The zelkov will observe you from a distance at first.
Return to the grove daily with small gifts, but do not enter the grove yourself. Let the zelkov see that you mean them no harm. After several visits, they may approach to accept the gifts while you remain still and calm.
Once the zelkov are comfortable taking gifts from you near the grove, you can try entering slowly and leaving more gifts deeper inside. Remain non-threatening and give the zelkov space. In time they will accept your presence.
When the zelkov allow you to come and go freely from their grove, you have gained their trust. You may then politely ask individuals if they will join your adventures and assist you in your travels through the forest. Offer fair pay and be a respectful partner to retain their loyalty.
With patience and kindness, you can count the zelkov as worthy allies in your journeys through the woods.
