Restringing a Dewalt trimmer is a relatively simple process that just requires a few basic tools and replacement trimmer line.
What You'll Need
- Replacement trimmer line (often .080" or .095" diameter monofilament line)
- Phillips head screwdriver
Instructions
- Turn the trimmer upside down and locate the spool cover below the trimmer head. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the single screw holding the cover in place.
- Remove the empty spool from inside the trimmer head housing.
- Place one end of the new trimmer line into one of the notches in the empty spool. Leave about 5-6 inches of line extended past the spool.
- Wind the new line tightly around the spool in a figure-8 pattern, leaving a few inches extended past the end of the winding.
- Clip the extended end of the line level with the top of the spool using scissors or trimmer line cutters.
- Replace the spool back inside the trimmer head housing and replace the spool cover screw.
Your Dewalt trimmer is now restrung and ready to use again. Be sure to wear proper eye and ear protection when operating the trimmer.
