How To Write A Letter?

Here are the basic steps to write a letter:

  • Date your letter by writing out the month, day and year or using the numerical date at the top of the page.
  • Include your address on the left hand side of the page or at the top, usually in a single line with city, state and zip code.
  • Leave a blank line under your address.
  • Write out the recipient's name and address in the same format as your own on the following lines, left-aligned.
  • Leave a blank line under the recipient's address.
  • Write "Dear [Name]" on the following line, left-aligned.
  • Leave a blank line and then start the body of your letter.
  • Express the purpose of your letter in the first paragraph.
  • Use additional paragraphs for additional topics or information.
  • Close your letter by writing "Sincerely," on the left side followed by your name on the next line.
  • You can include your name again under your typed signature or include your initials.
  • Don't forget to sign your letter!

Be sure to proofread for any errors before sending your letter.
